Brief History: Frankly, Megatron's history is shrouded in mystery, even moreso than Optimus Prime. Most of this, however, is just Decepticon propaganda made to throw the Autobots off knowing what matters to their leader - other than power, of course. Millions of years ago, the first Transformers, the Primes, guided the galaxy on a path of peace and love. Until one Prime, with rage in his heart, became the Fallen, by killing one of his brothers (Who got better. Anyway...), introducing 'murder' into the memeplex of the Transformers. Murder led to war, and the Autobots and Decepticons formed up, fighting the first Great War that lasted for centuries. Since neither side died of old age, they would fight until the bitter end. But the Autobots learned the key to transformation from the great computer, Vector Sigma, and appeared to be able to win the war. Until one Decepticon rose up and took command himself.
Megatron was as powerful as he was charismatic, bearing a heavy burden: to lead his people through this war. Initially, like the Primes, he believed in limiting the conflict to Cybertron, to avoid the complications that other races would have on their aeons-long conflict. This soon disappeared with the Autobot hoarding of energon. The Decepticons stormed Iacon and began using the Robo-Smasher to convert Autobots into Decepticon slaves - the only target of the Smasher who was not converted was Omega Supreme, who lost much of himself in the process and was left with a burning hatred for the Decepticons, especially his old friends, the Constructicons.
Many years later, Cybertron runs very low on energy, and the Decepticons now see the light in the tunnel: they must conquer other worlds, in the goal of conquering Cybertron. They took a new Star Cruiser, the Nemesis, in hopes of following the Autobot Ark to whatever new world it found. The rest is not history, but legend. This Megatron, however, comes from a time in between 1985 and 2005, nebulous enough to know most Decepticon forces.
With regard to Starscream, here is his own opinion on the subject: "Why? That's what they all asked me. Why him... why Starscream? Why, of all the Decepticons, did I decide to revitalize the one whose record of deceit and betrayal is legend? Because I'm an idiot, that's why!"

Personality: Megatron is a confident and competent commander of 'bots. At least, he was in the days of the Great War. He commanded the war effort that nearly destroyed the Autobots, drove the Junkions away, and even pushed Vector Sigma deep underground. After the incident with the Nemesis and the Ark that left him stranded under a mountain for four million years, some Decepticons (like Starscream) believe that either the damage he recieved during the crash, or the rebuilding under the care of Teletraan 1 may have damaged his personality, logic, and intelligence circuits. He is extremely violent, both to Autobots and to his own people. His entire goal has become summed up in a single word: pillage. Rather than actively supporting Cybertron, he reaches out to conquer all other worlds in the Alicuna, where he can steal Energon from the native populations. He delights in random acts of destruction such as the Decepticons have never seen before, and will destroy even those who serve him faithfully if he so chooses. Some of his followers wish to use him as a weapon, others see him as getting in the way. Only a very rare few actually wish to believe that Megatron can be rebuilt to his former glory. There's only two problems. First, he's still a genius-level intelligence, even among the Transformers with knowledge of Vector Sigma's secrets, as he was created directly by the computer. Second, he is still one of the most powerful non-Combiner bots, easily the equal (if not the better) of a Prime - regardless of who that Prime may be!
Or...is his fall just an act, lying in wait for someone to attempt to betray his command, so he can destroy them?
Roleplaying Sample:
"You disappoint me again, Starscream!"
The booming voice somehow managed to contain a bit of a wheeze, showing the age of the decepticon who said it. Megatron was powerful, but he was not newly-cast, even in these days. Sparing a haphazard shot at the aforementioned jet, he charged into battle with the Autobots, a few of the still Robo-Smashed slaves nearby him, along with the army he and the Constructicons had built. To take Iacon would be the greatest event ever, the deciding victory of what all Cybertronians called the Great War. Under his command, through the use of the Constructicons and copies of the Smasher, all would indeed be one, and Megatron would be lauded as the hero of Cybertron, its destined Lord and Master. The only ones who still fought were the fools under the influence of Optimus Prime and Alpha Trion, whose auras of power had protected their will. Unfortunately, they had rallied the last of the Guardian Robots, Omega Supreme, to their side. He would be difficult to destroy, as he had already defeated both Devastator and the Robo-Smasher.
The huge, searing energy blasts literally burnt holes in the atmosphere of Cybertron, causing huge midair explosions that damaged the flying Decepticons. Of course, being on the ground, most of the Autobot troops were left unharmed.
Despite these successes, the Autobot forces were being destroyed, dismantled, and laid low as the crystal dome of Iacon, capital of Cybertron, was assaulted. The Decepticon leader's laser core surged, seeing his soldiers run forwards. Of course, what had been the disappointment? Very simply, Starscream and the other Seekers were meant to go ahead and shut down the energy which upheld the weaponry and shield of Iacon, the same weaponry and shields that now could be his downfall. But he didn't have the chance to argue. Their plans relied entirely on the timing of Soundwave and Shockwave now.
The jets streamed overhead, but he saw some of the tetrajets get taken down by the huge scanner/gun emplacements that Shockwave's alternate mode had been based on. Yet the Decepticon force as a whole still overtook the city.
Soon, Megatron himself was once again within Iacon! Carried forward on the force of his army, he roared and formed his purple energon mace, swinging backhand across a line of Autobots, who flew back. The Decepticon leader walked forward, stepping on the chest of one of his fallen enemy.
"...You'll be defeated, Megatron! Optimus Prime will turn you into scrap"
He looked down, smiling faintly. He had courage, and valor - traits Megatron could not help but admire, as much as the hatred burned in his laser core. "If he does manage, I shall meet you on that heap!" His cannon charged and he fired, vaporizing his enemy's head and leaving a foot-deep cylinder carved into the hard metal of the ground. He continued to march forward as he forced his way towards the city - towards the place he came online. Between his mace and his cannon, Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, was a horror to behold on the battlefield, equally destructive at long-range and melee. Soon, very soon, they would overtake this city. And that upstart, the last of the Primes, would be his to destroy.
"Destroy the Autobots! This city is ours! But leave Optimus Prime to me and me alone! So commands Megatron!"
"We hear and obey, Lord Megatron."
Millions of Years Later...
Megatron's voice still maintained that wheezing boom, a quality which could never be emulated by any other 'Bot. "What is this, a transwarp conduit?"
He looked to his second-in-command and science officer, Starscream. Certainly, he was the most deceitful Decepticon ever to walk or fly - but he was needed. This irregularity in the Space Bridge, through which they'd lost contact with Shockwave on Cybertron, seemed very odd. It was stable, but, different.
"I don't think so, Megatron. Based on all that I can see, it is a true rift - a hole in time and space. But these readings! They make no sense!"
Megatron's hand flew out, striking Starscream and knocking the scientist around. "Then make them make sense, you fool! I cannot take over Earth and rebuild Cybertron with a possibly deadly, unknown conduit within the Space Bridge!" His tone changed almost immediately, softening as he began to scheme. "On the other hand, if it is stable... Soundwave, dispatch Laserbeak! I want to know what lies on the other side of that portal!"
And so began the Decepticon conquest of the world known only as...The Alicuna!
To my fellow Transformers geeks: I am aware that this scene of the taking of Iacon may seem more at home with the Marvel comics continuity than the G1 cartoon. However, "More Than Meets the Eye", as well as "The Secret of Omega Supreme" and "War Dawn" make these events possible. And besides, it's an RP, so it's not quite the same. I intended for it to be after the "Golden Age", toward the middle of the Great War, about 3 million years before More Than Meets The Eye. Therefore, to this Megatron, it's a full 7 million years ago. And yes, I am attempting to decide which of the many versions of his villain decay to account for here. I just haven't decided yet - whichever it is will be dealt with fairly soon, 'cause he's gonna start slagging people.
