[[ This thread is linked from: [x]It is open to other players wandering down the path. ]] Timeline: Day: 8/9/09 Time: 3 PM ---------------------------------- Pant. Pant.It wasn't a dream. That little meeting she had was real. Samus darted down the path, using her quick reflexes to avoid falling--she just wanted to get away, as fast as possible, from her home. This wasn't right. NONE of this was right. None of it should be happening! The huntress reached the middle of the path, a lull in the curves, and paused to catch her breath. She slumped down towards the stony ground, with her Paralyzer hand shaking violently. She had to calm down. She had to. She had to think. But even that seemed impossible ... The spiders ... the swarm ... She had failed her planet; she failed Brinstar. She fled like a coward. How could she?! With a small grunt of disgust at herself, Samus rose to her feet, and shook her head. ... She would have to find a way back. Though, the thought of going back ... gave her chills. Something was up. She couldn't go back. Not now ...

It had seemed simple enough at the start. A new path had come up on satellite. Ordinarily, there was nothing strange about that, but it was on Shadow Moses Island. Just to be cautious, Snake was sent in to see where it led. After a few miles of walking along possibly the straightest path he had ever encountered, all Snake was noticing was the snow lessening (which was, admittedly, peculiar, considering it was Alaska), the mist getting thicker, and the smell. It smelled like gunpowder, death, smoke, and all sorts of other pleasant things. At times that was almost comforting; it was normalcy. But here, on this path that probably shouldn't exist, it seemed...warped, somehow. Foreboding. Nonetheless, he plowed ahead. Eventually, the snow disappeared, and then so did the mist. However, the mist returned en mass a few feet later. Until, after what was (to be blunt and to understate) a very long walk, the path and the mist abruptly came to an end. It dumped Snake out into a stone circle, in a world barren of everything but rocks of varying sizes and colors. It was a bit of anticlimax, really... "Otacon." The Codec was silent. "Otacon!...Colonel...?" Nothing. He made to back track down the path; something was wrong here. However, his back hit solid stone. He whipped around, and where there had once been a black entrance, there was just a rock, towering high above him.
…He was stuck…
Snake glanced around the circle to see seven other similar pathways. Maybe one led back to Shadow Moses. After a moment’s pause, he cautiously walked down the path directly across from where he was standing, grabbing his SOCOM as he walked (because if there was anything here, which was slim, he had no idea if a tranquilizer would even work). The path he chose was the most determined to be difficult path he had ever walked on. It curved and twisted and turned so much he thought it doubled back on itself. It seemed to float in some places, and seemed to be along a cliff in others. At one such cliff edge, he saw a blonde woman (with a large gun) in a blue suit, and apparently having a freak out of some sort. He ducked behind the turn he had just taken, hidden by the conveniently placed cliff.

Samus abruptly paused and glanced around, cautiously raising her Paralyzer. She had heard something hit the stone; it wasn't very loud, no, but ... knowing her luck, it was probably another spider.
And those damn bugs didn't need to see her having a meltdown. They'd probably like it. The huntress pointed it ahead, to the left, right, and back ahead. Slowly, carefully, she began to make her way down the path again, her guard up. Whatever would try and get into her home again ... she'd stop it for sure. She wouldn't let Zebes be overtaken by something else if she could help it.
Wait ... The earthquake. She couldn't do anything. ... Damn it ...
But where was the thing that made that slight noise? It had to be here somewhere. It couldn't run off without her seeing it.

Dammit.
Snake backed up a step, but the path was a petulant and attitudinal one, dead set on trying to kill all those that trod upon it. Misjudging a curve, he nearly slipped and caught himself on the cliff face. There wasn’t enough room to turn around and go back, either (or the path would decide to buck him off, for sure).
He raised his SOCOM and stepped forward to meet whoever the hell it was.

"Aha!" Samus paused in her slow stride and pointed her Paralyzer directly at the intruder. ... He had a gun, too. ... Shit.
"Who are you?" She didn't see him at that ... first 'meeting,' but since he tried to hide instead of interacting, he might've been listening in. It was best to interrogate him for now. If he was the one -- ... no. He couldn't be controlling the spiders. That was ....... magic. She had no idea how else to describe it. This man was using a gun. And he seemed to have his own special utility belt.
It didn't take her suit to tell her that this man was a threat.
"What are you doing here?"

Gun still held at the ready and watching her carefully, he replied warily, “My name isn’t important.”
The path continued in the direction she had come from, so it wasn’t hard to figure out how she had gotten to this point. “I’m assuming I got here the same way you did,” he replied flatly. “Who are you?”

"Samus Aran," she answered simply. Her eyes narrowed, and seeing that he wasn't going to shoot her right off, she lowered the Paralyzer slightly. Oh, don't make any mistakes; her guard was still up. But if he was this curt when faced with death, it wasn't likely that she would get much information about this place out of him. ... Whatever he knew, anyway. From what he said, he apparently was confused as she was. This wasn't a good sign.
"Huh. You don't know either?" Go figure. Samus let out a small snarl and glanced away, obviously agitated. "Don't recommending going down this way, though, unless if you like spiders."

He lowered his gun, because it didn’t look like she was going to shoot him in the face any time soon, and it really wouldn’t be polite if he shot here in the face now.
“…Spiders?”
Spiders (or any bug, really) were nothing new, and were a very minor occurrence in the Grand Scheme of Shit That Happens. However, it would probably be safe to assume she wasn’t talking about ordinary spiders.

His back against a large boulder, Link couldn't help but eavesdrop on the two. He hadn't noticed where the man came from or who he was for that matter- but the woman sounded familiar. The orange armored warrior, perhaps?
At the mention of spiders, his mind traced back to the Temple of Time. It was there he had to face the menace known as Armogohma, and for some reason he had a vague feeling that Zant was up to something. Hastily climbing to his feet, he drew his weapons and silently walked past them. He was going to need to save his energy.

Samus was about to answer Snake's question with her own, but she saw Link brush by. She promptly turned and attempted to grab his arm to hold him back.
"Don't go back there. Don't want people hurt by spiders. It's a wreck." She flashed back to the fight, and flinched. She remembered those stone-like legs crashing through Brinstar's boulders ... how easily it managed to destroy the path to the elevator room, not to mention the door LEADING there. If she couldn't win, how could this kid?
"And yes ..." Samus glanced back at Snake. "Spiders."

The kid dressed in green seemed a bit out of place here, but the woman seemed to know him, so Snake deemed him relatively harmless for now, in favor of figuring out more about the current situation (which apparently involved not-quite-ordinary spiders; fun).
"Where does the path lead to, anyway?"

Link tried to shrug her off in an attempt to rush away, but then he turned to face her. "Did it have one bright orange eye?" he asked plainly.

Samus looked confused, but nodded slightly. Did this kid ... know that spider? ... Was he the one controlling it?
she shook her head and looked back at Snake, and folded her arms. "It leads to my home. Zebes. To be specific, Brinstar. Apparently, someone set its teeth on it. I can't ... bring myself to go back there. I can't beat that giant-ass spider in there, and my armor is ruined."

"I knew it." And with that he sprinted off to the portal with his sword and shield drawn; a grim determination chiseled upon his features. He could sense that odd serene feeling that he had encountered before... Zant. He had submerged Zebes into Twilight...

Quirking an eyebrow, Snake watched the kid take off down the path. Well. That was...different. Most people, to Snake's knowledge, didn't hear 'giant demon spider' and think 'MUST FIND.' Hell, he generally didn't hear 'giant demon spider' and think 'MUST FIND' (granted, he had never encountered a giant demon spider before, but that's beside the point). Back on track, now that that distraction was over with.
"What's Zebes?" he asked, full attention turning back to Samus.
